Special Characters

This page displays the character sets that various request parameters support.

Personal name parameters

By default, the name parameters (firstName, middleName, lastName) accept the character set in the table below. You can also enable International characters and the extended character set for the name fields.

The name parameters for ACH accounts follow the rules in ACH name parameters.

Extended character set

To support an extended character set for the name parameters, the CNSCR provider parameter must be set.

ACH name parameters

To conform with Nacha file conventions, the name parameters for Add ACH Account (name, firstName, lastName) and Add ACH Account Corporate (name, companyName) accept these characters only. International characters with diacritics (accents, umlauts) are not supported.

businessName parameter

The businessName parameter supports these characters, and you can request that the International characters also be enabled.

embossLine2 characters

The embossLine2 field in the enrollment endpoints supports this character set.

International characters

International characters are Latin letters with diacritics such as accent marks, umlauts, ligatures, and tildes.

Galileo supports the alphabetic characters in the Western European (WE8MSWIN1252/CP1252) character set, which is the same as the ISO-8859-15 (Latin-9) alphabetic character set plus the Capital Y-umlaut (Ÿ).

The following parameters support the international character set. In most cases, you must ask Galileo to enable international characters. For the Create Payment and Create Account Transfer endpoints, this character set is supported by default.
